Project Overview

A group of parents based in Geelong embarked on a joint project to build a brand new five-bedroom, three-bathroom share house, specifically designed for five disabled women.  As this was the only project of its kind that the families were planning, they searched for the best mobility solutions available in Melbourne at competitive prices – this is how they came across CHS Healthcare. They contacted CHS Healthcare at the design stage of the project to recommend products that would be suitable for this type of shared house. The team at CHS Healthcare travelled to Geelong to meet with the families and proposed a solution that would fit the lifestyle needs of the five women.

Key Challenges

The three couples had never worked on a project like this before but with backgrounds in Building and Financial Management, and with the help of CHS Healthcare, they managed the project themselves. Some of the key challenges for the families included requiring assistance with product recommendations, designing the building to include all fittings required to install the equipment, and the ongoing maintenance of the equipment. Over the next two years, the shared house received more than 10 different carers from a contracting organisation who needed to be trained on the use of the CHS Healthcare product range.

The Solution

CHS Healthcare’s involvement in the design and construction stages of the project was critical to its success as the occupants required a home designed with very high support. The sales team was quick to provide guidance and recommendations on the products that were most suitable for their project. The team installed multiple ceiling hoists, rail systems and an accessible bath.

Although the accommodation was based a couple of hours away from CHS Healthcare’s head office, their team was available onsite through all stages of the project. They also trained multiple staff members on correct product usage and visited Geelong on a number of occasions to host training sessions.

The Outcome

As per the project plan, the families now have a five-bedroom and three-bathroom house fully fitted-out with hoists, rail systems and a large disability bath all supplied and installed by CHS Healthcare. They were happy with the help and guidance they received during the project, and particularly the project installation. The client was most grateful for the early intervention they received from CHS Healthcare that helped avoid costly mistakes during the construction process. The families continue to recommend CHS Healthcare’s products to others.
